On March 4, 2023, the “Read” conference, organized by the NorArar NGO and now transformed into a student movement, took place at the Vanadzor Technology Center. The conference was titled “We Will Win by Reading.” Seven dozen students from seven schools, along with teachers and guests, participated in the conference.
In the months leading up to the “Read” conference, hundreds of students from seven schools were involved in reading books and engaging in group discussions about them. This process fostered a love for reading and, most importantly, in some schools, developed initiative and motivation, aiming to involve elementary school students in the circle of reading enthusiasts as well.
During the conference, students had the opportunity to meet and listen to the panel discussion guests talk about their reading journeys, learning from Teny Avakian, Nvard Minasyan, Erik Kashyan, and Levon Chukaklyan.
Students from grades 5-9 presented their chosen works in various formats: slideshows, videos, dramatizations, interactive communications, and even chemical experiments. They engaged in teamwork, collaborating with students from different schools in the same teams (Mortals, Brightminds, Fantastics, and other teams) to discuss selected works using the Bono’s Hats method. Simultaneously, the teams competed with each other by answering closed questions based on the works.
The impact of “Read” goes beyond just this event. In some schools, the books planned under “Read” have become desirable birthday gifts for students, reviving the old and cherished tradition of gifting books to one another.
Special thanks to the school teachers and all the students for making reading a celebration. We will win by reading. We are grateful to the Gradarak Libraries NGO for providing the necessary books to the schools.
