School's Out, Summer's In: Learning Never Stops with NorArar
Dear Supporters of Education,
I am thrilled to share with you an opportunity to make a profound impact on literacy in rural Armenia through NorArar NGO. As a public school teacher here in the US and an advocate for research-based equitable literacy instruction, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of ensuring every child has access to quality education and the tools they need to succeed.
About NorArar NGO:
NorArar NGO was founded in 2020 by a group of like-minded individuals who studied together at London’s Global University (UCL). Inspired by their education and driven by a commitment to social change, they established NorArar to address the educational and socieoemotional needs of children impacted by the Artsakh war. Initially focused on supporting displaced children in Vanadzor, Armenia, NorArar has evolved to become a pivotal force in promoting literacy and educational development in Armenia’s Lori region.
Our Mission and Impact:
Mission: NorArar is committed to enhancing the quality of formal and non-formal education, expanding children’s worldviews, building their self-confidence, and helping them fulfill their potential.
Initiatives:
- Help Me Read Campaign: Our flagship initiative, Help Me Read, focuses on training teachers and educational staff to support students with special needs and struggling readers. By partnering with the Republican Pedagogical and Psychological Center (RPPC), a public agency responsible for inclusive education provision across Armenia, we aim to create a replicable model for reading intervention. Our vision is to expand Help Me Read until we reach every primary and elementary school in Armenia!
- Karda Reading Clubs: Karda means read in Armenian! Our after-school reading clubs were born from student interest. Karda Reading Clubs engage middle school children in shared reading practices to enhance their motivation and critical understanding of the value of reading. Additionally, we host an annual reading conference for students in Armenia’s Lori Region!
- Karda Reading App: Currently under development, the Karda Reading App is an innovative tool that will provide universal access to quality reading content in Armenian, catering to students’ diverse educational needs and abilities.
The Challenge:
Armenia’s educational landscape is complex, facing socio-political disruptions that disrupt learning continuity for children. Vulnerable student groups, such as those with special needs and displaced students, require consistent support to thrive academically and emotionally. NorArar’s initiatives focus on bridging these gaps through innovative educational practices and community engagement.
Why Your Support Matters:
Your donation will:
- Fund content development of literacy programs and resources tailored to diverse learning needs.
- Support professional development for teachers to implement new best practices in reading instruction.
- Expand NorArar’s impact across more schools in Armenia, empowering children through equitable education.
